PRAYER: "Finding the Lord's Prayer. Again."
Maybe it's the pandemic. Maybe it's just me. But prayer's getting real for me these days. Not as a way to manipulate the cosmos, or prove my devotion to God. But as a practice that grounds me in this place. And as a practice that humbles me and connects me and finds me in a wider community of beings and friends. This particular prayer -- which is a Maori Prayer from the South Pacific -- has become especially potent, and I say it often.
It's a revisioning (or simply, an interpretation) of the Lord's Prayer. And it moves me. I find myself walking with Jesus. I sense a cloud of witnesses all around me. And I'm grateful for the amazing gifts and commitments of those who are living in compassion, faith and risk every day now.

I'm provoked a bit by this notion of the Commonwealth of Peace and Freedom. I'm so used to praying "Thy Kingdom Come." It soothes me. But maybe this commonwealth-stuff is what Jesus was really after: a human community in which first are last, last are first, and all are fed!
